Canon History: During the Sengoku Era, an evil feudal warlord named Gengetsu Kibaoni believed that the war-torn country of Japan would be best united through fear - and after that, he would continue to conquer the entire world. He was killed by the Igasaki clan, but Kibaoni swore his revenge on the world, and would be revived as an oni centuries later. This second time, he was defeated by the Last Ninja, Yoshitaka Igasaki, who sealed him in a tomb with 48 special Sealing Shuriken. At the start of Ninninger, the shurikens' seal was destroyed by Kyuuemon Izayoi, and Kibaoni's influence began to spread as he spread his retainers out into Japan to gather fear and make him more powerful in his final return.

Yoshitaka anticipated this happening, and created the Otomi Nin with the help of aliens (i'm not even joking) and Tetsunosuke Saika the 21st, to give to the Ninninger to help them in their quest to defeat Kibaoni before he can destroy the world. The question of why Yoshitaka simply sealed Kibaoni away, instead of using the incredibly powerful End Shuriken to destroy him, has yet to be answered.

Background: Currently Kinji's past is only known in broad strokes. In his own words, he's "never known what it's like to have a family": the reason for this is that his only relatives, his father and brother ~~(fuck knows what happened to his mum)~~ were killed by the youkai . They were both otherwise excellent Youkai hunters, and from what is currently known that is Kinji's ultimate goal - to be a greater Youkai hunter than the pair of them.

At some point in his life he met Yoshitaka Igasaki, the Last Ninja, and was so impressed by him that he begged to be the ninja's apprentice. Igasaki refused, as Kinji lacked Nintality (Nin Power, basically the ability to be a ninja at all), but Kinji was so unrelenting with his begging that Igasaki agreed, as long as Kinji could defeat him in combat.

Kinji obtained a copy of Igasaki's book, "I Am THE LAST NINJA", and between that and mimicking Igasaki's techniques, started on his journey to becoming a true ninja, worthy of the title Last Ninja and ownership of the Finishing Shuriken.

Over the next however many years, Kinji became a highly skilled ninja and roboticist, using the schematics from Igasaki's book to create his own mechas, Rodeomaru (a sentient human-shaped mecha) and Bison Buggy (a bull mecha on wheels that Rodeomaru rides) with the ability to transform into the Giant Robo Bison King (with the shiniest cockpit)
